2018 Guest Celebrity Chef Dean Fearing
Widely recognized for his colorfully embroidered cowboy boots and often seen around Dallas playing one of his vintage guitars (for either The Barbwires or The Lost Coyote Band), and, oh, yes, also otherwise known as The Father of Southwest Cuisine and owner of Fearing’s Restaurant at The Ritz-Carlton Dallas, the inimitable Dean Fearing will be serving as the guest celebrity chef at this year’s Santa Fe Wine & Chile Fiesta.
Also renowned for his 2014 tome, The Texas Food Bible, and as the host of the Food Network’s Entertaining at Home with Dean Fearing, Fearing has also been cited by his alma mater, the Culinary Institute of America, as a “Pioneer of American Cuisine.”
After graduating from the CIA, he spent the following 20-plus years at The Mansion on Turtle Creek, in Dallas, before opening Fearing’s in 2007. In 2008, the Zagat guide gave Fearing’s the top spot on its list of the best in hotel dining, and simultaneously named the Dallas Ritz-Carlton as the nation’s best large hotel.
Charming, energetic and endlessly inventive, Fearing hopes you’ll join him at this year’s Fiesta. As Fearing explained his philosophy two years ago to, of all places, Guitar Player magazine: “Happy cooks produce happy food.” Which also makes for happy customers—and happy Fiestagoers.
